Products Description
The principle of the MTM3 slider-type magnetostrictive sensor involves generating a strain pulse signal when two distinct magnetic fields intersect. The time required to detect this signal is then calculated to determine the precise position. One magnetic field originates from a permanent magnet within the magnetic ring, while the other stems from excitation pulses generated by electronic components in the sensor's electronics compartment. These excitation pulses travel at the speed of sound along the waveguide wire, which is manufactured from magnetostrictive material within the sensor. When intersecting the permanent magnetic field within the magnetic ring, the mechanical vibration generated in the waveguide wire due to the magnetostrictive effect forms a strain pulse. This strain pulse is rapidly detected by the sensing circuitry within the electronics compartment. By multiplying the total time elapsed from the generation of the excitation pulse to the detection of the strain pulse by a fixed sound velocity, the MTM3 slider-type magnetostrictive sensor precisely calculates the positional change of the magnet. This process is continuous, so whenever the magnetic ring changes position, the new location is measured instantly. Since the output signal is a true value—not a proportional signal or one requiring further amplification—there is no signal drift or variation. Unlike other sensors, periodic recalibration is unnecessary.
