The Application of Miran LVDT Displacement Sensor for Monitoring of Bridge Cracks
2026-09-04
As a key node of the transportation infrastructure, the structural safety of bridges directly affects the safety of public life and property. Cracks are one of the most common diseases of bridge structures. The continuous monitoring of crack width and opening degree is an important means to assess the operating status of bridges and warn of potential risks. The Miran LVDT crack measurement series provides a mature and reliable solution to this demand.

The Miran LVDT crack gauge operates based on the principle of the differential transformer type displacement sensor (LVDT). Its core structure consists of a primary coil and two secondary coils. When the iron core moves with the opening and closing of the crack, the difference in the induced electromotive force generated by the two secondary coils changes accordingly. This change value is linearly related to the displacement of the iron core, thereby enabling high-precision measurement of very small displacements.
The Miran LVDT products have the following technical advantages in the application of bridge crack monitoring:
Ⅰ.High precision and high resolution.
The Milan LVDT crack meter has a resolution as fine as micrometers, capable of accurately detecting the minute changes in cracks in the bridge structure caused by factors such as temperature variations and vehicle loads, providing reliable data support for structural force analysis.
Ⅱ.Excellent long-term stability.
The product is equipped with a 304 stainless steel metal casing, and the electronic circuit is sealed inside the tube. It has excellent moisture-proof and dust-proof performance, and is suitable for long-term monitoring deployment in complex environments such as bridges in the open air or in humid conditions. Some waterproof products have a protection level of IP68, further enhancing their outdoor adaptability.
Ⅲ.Flexible signal output and anti-interference capability.
This series of sensors supports 0-5V, 0-10V, 4-20mA and RS485 digital signal output, which can be easily connected to PLC or various data acquisition systems. The RS485 digital output mode has stronger anti-interference capability during long-distance transmission, which is conducive to on-site wiring.
Ⅳ.The engineering verification and application are extensive.
The LVDT technology has mature application cases in the field of bridge structural health monitoring. Research and practice both at home and abroad have shown that the LVDT sensor is suitable for continuous monitoring of cracks, displacements and vibrations in bridges, and can provide key data for bridge performance assessment and early warning systems. The Miran LVDT crack gauge has been widely used in crack monitoring of civil engineering projects such as bridges, tunnels and buildings.
